Rushikonda beach is located about 10 km north of the Ramkrishna beach. Yarada beach is in the southern side of the city and a bit away from the crowd. It offers clear golden sand and sparkling blue water. The Ramkrishna beach offers also other attractions like the Matsyadarshini aquarium, the INS Kurusera submarine museum, the Ramkrishna mission kali temple etc. the INS kurusera museum is a Submarine that has retired from it’s duty after serving the Indian navy over several decades. The inside of the submarine depicts the life of navy personal on duty in the submarine through models and illustrations. The Ramkrishna beach also have lot of eateries and Water sports facilities. The Rushikonda beach offers water sports facilities like wind surfing. Some other attractions in the city are the Kailashagiri hilltop park, the Indira Gandhi national zoological park, and the Simhachalam temple, The Kailashagiri park is located in a hilltop that offers a nice view of the Rishkonda beach and city below. It also has a large statue of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati painted in white. The Indira Gandhi Zoological park is the 3rd largest zoo in India that is the abode of a wide variety of animals, birds ,reptiles located in a natural surroundings that is a part of a sanctuary. Animals here include Tiger, cheetah, Lion, sloth bear, Rhino, Elephant, Gaur, deer, Wlid boar, various types of crocodile turtle. etc. It also has exotic animals like Giraffe, Zebra, and Hippo. One can also see various types of birds like rosy pelicans, grey herons, Ostriches, Emu etc. The famous Varahalakshmi Venkatswamy temple is a 13 th century Hindu temple located 300 metres above the sea level in the Simahchalam hilltop and dedicated to Lord Varah and Narsimha, incarnations of lord Vishnu. There are special festivities celebrated here as per the vaishnavite traditions. Built in the Kalinga Architectural style, The temple wall has various sculptures of the das avatar or 10 incarnations of lord Vishnu. From Vizag one can go for a day trip to the Araku valley located at a distance of about 140 kms. Araku valley is a hill station in the Eastern Ghats mountain range at a hight of about 3000ft. It’s lush green tea and coffee plantations, misty clouds, and myriad waterfalls makes it a nature lover’s paradise. One can book a cab on a round trip for about Rs 3000 t0 4000. There are also various trains going from Vizag to Araku valley, including the famous Vista dome Kirandul express that offers an open panoramic view of the surrounding hills on the way. The road journey by cab is also quite comfortable and additionally offers the flexibility of timings. For the budget travellers, public and private buses are also available from Vizag to Araku. The most important attraction of the Araku valley is Bora cave. These are enormous ancient caves with age dating back to millions of years located deep inside the forest. Inside the caves there are formations of stalactite and stalagmite rocks formed over millions of years which looks like different distinct objects. The cave has been decorated with illuminations inside it , to highlight the beauty of this formations . There are various eateries located near the entry of the cave, where one can have the lunch. Apart from Bora caves one can see the tribal Arts museum, the Chaparai falls, the coffee plantations, and the sunset viewpoint in the Araku valley. The things to buy here includes Araku coffee pouches, various spices like Cardamom, Cinnamon , Clove etc which are cultivated nearby and available at cheap prices. One can also taste the Bamboo chicken in the roadside eateries. This is a local delicacy prepared by roasting chicken pieces inside bamboo. One can leave Araku valley by afternoon , to return to Vizag city by evening.
