Micrometer

Description/ Specification of Micrometer

A micrometer, often referred to as a micrometer screw gauge, is a precision measuring instrument used for accurate measurement of small distances or thicknesses in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and various scientific applications. It consists of a calibrated screw with a precise pitch (typically 0.5 mm or 0.025 inches) that rotates inside a threaded sleeve. The object to be measured is placed between the anvil and the spindle, and as the screw is turned, the spindle moves towards or away from the anvil. The measurement is read from the scale on the sleeve and the thimble, often down to the nearest thousandth of a millimeter or ten-thousandth of an inch. Micrometers are renowned for their accuracy and are an essential tool in industries where precision is paramount, such as machining, quality control, and scientific research.
